Em resumo
ADV is the foundational era of modern competitivo Pokémon. Before Gen 3, customisation existia (DVs, stat experience) but was coarse-grained. Gen 3 introduzido fine-grained control, habilidades, natures, and the granular EV system, that the franchise has used ever since.
Modern competitivo Pokémon is, in structural terms, ADV with three more decades of refinements layered on top.

Habilidades, naturezas, EVs
Three customisation systems arrived na Gen 3. Each one would have been a generational change on its own; together they reset what a competitivo Pokémon could be.
Habilidades
Every Pokémon now has an habilidade, a passive effect that triggers under específico conditions. Some habilidades are purely flavour (Run Away, Pickup); others reshape competitivo identity entirely (Levitate, Wonder Guard, Intimidate, Speed Boost). Many Pokémon have two habilidade options; the chosen one is set at hatch / capture.
Naturezas

The trade-off forced players to specialise.
Por que essas três mudanças importaram juntas
Habilidades que invocam weather
Drought, Drizzle, Sand Stream and Snow Warning all originate na Gen 3, but with very limited distribution. Drought belonged to Groudon; Drizzle to Kyogre; Sand Stream to Tyranitar.
The Tyranitar + Sand pivot pattern that defined Gen 5 OU was already present in ADV.
