About this list

Every legal Mega is grouped by its post-Mega primary type. Stat lines reflect cartridge canonical post-Mega values for returning Megas, and Pokémon Champions preview data for new Megas. Treat new-Mega stats as subject to balance patches in the first months of the format.

  • Stats column: HP / Atk / Def / SpA / SpD / Spe (post-Mega).
  • Ability column: the post-Mega ability (Mega Evolution always overwrites the pre-Mega ability).
  • Type column: the post-Mega type combination. Some Megas swap type (Charizard becomes Fire/Dragon as X; Altaria becomes Dragon/Fairy; Gyarados becomes Water/Dark).
  • Note column: the 1-2 sentence competitive identity — what the Mega does, who it pairs with, where it slots.
  • New badge marks the 9 Megas added in Pokémon Champions (not available on cartridge).

New Megas added in Champions

For the first time since Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire (2014), the franchise has new Mega Evolutions. Pokémon Champions adds 9 new Mega forms spread across Gen 5, Gen 6, and Gen 9 base species.

Why these picks?

The Pokémon Company chose new Mega recipients to balance the existing returning pool: a non-Charizard sun option (Pyroar), a hazard-pivot Rock Mega (Glimmora), a new physical Dragon ceiling (Baxcalibur), a Doubles cheese cornerstone (Tatsugiri stacked with Dondozo), and three Gen 6 species that never got Megas the first time (Eelektross, Floette, Dragalge).

Notable Megas missing at launch

Six Megas from the Gen 6 / Gen 7 cartridge era are not implemented in Pokémon Champions at launch. Their absence is meta-defining: several were top-tier threats in their original format.

The six absent Megas

  • Mega Sceptile — fast Grass/Dragon offensive Mega. Its absence keeps Grass-type offense narrower than in Gen 6 OU.
  • Mega Blaziken — Speed Boost + 160 Atk. Was format-defining in ORAS; its absence is the largest single Reg M-A balance choice.
  • Mega Swampert — Swift Swim rain core anchor. Without it, rain teams in Reg M-A lack their cleanest physical sweeper.
  • Mega Mawile — Huge Power Fairy. Dominated VGC 2015 to the point its absence is felt across the entire Steel/Fairy axis.
  • Mega Salamence — Aerilate Double-Edge. Banned mid-Gen-6 VGC; its absence is consistent with that historical precedent.
  • Mega Metagross — defining VGC 2015 winner. The Steel/Psychic offensive cornerstone slot is filled differently in Reg M-A.

Will absent Megas return?

The Pokémon Company has not commented on the absent six. The roster could expand in future Reg M-B or post-Worlds patches. Until then, Reg M-A is the snapshot to play.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions
How many Mega Evolutions are legal in Champions VGC 2026 Reg M-A?

59 Mega Evolutions are legal in Reg M-A. The pool combines returning Megas from Gen 6 and Gen 7 cartridges with new Megas introduced in Pokémon Champions itself. Each team can run a maximum of one Mega Evolution per battle.

Which Mega Evolutions are new in Pokémon Champions?

The new Champions-exclusive Megas include Mega Pyroar, Mega Scovillain, Mega Eelektross, Mega Floette, Mega Dragalge, Mega Glimmora, Mega Baxcalibur, Mega Tatsugiri, and Mega Annihilape. These are the first new Mega Evolutions introduced to the franchise since Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire in 2014.

Which classic Mega Evolutions are missing from Champions at launch?

Six notable Megas are absent at launch: Mega Sceptile, Mega Blaziken, Mega Swampert, Mega Mawile, Mega Salamence, and Mega Metagross. Several of these were format-defining threats in their original generation, so their absence visibly reshapes the Reg M-A meta.

Can I use more than one Mega Evolution per team in Reg M-A?

No. The Mega Evolution rule from Gen 6 still applies: you may hold a Mega Stone on multiple Pokémon, but only one of them can Mega Evolve per battle. Teambuilding effectively forces a single Mega cornerstone decision.

Are Mega Stones tied to specific Pokémon or freely tradable?

Each Mega Stone is species-locked. Charizardite Y only works on Charizard, Garchompite only on Garchomp, and so on. In Pokémon Champions, Mega Stones are unlocked through the Victory Points recruitment system rather than purchased separately.

Will Tera be active alongside Mega Evolution in future regulations?

Tera is in the Pokémon Champions game files but disabled in Reg M-A. The Pokémon Company has signaled it may activate Terastallization in a later regulation, but Reg M-A is intentionally Mega-only to establish a clean baseline.
